Life sentenced prison inmates in Illinois’ prisons, are trying to make their time productive. The film documents their attempt to fill-in teaching positions, left vacant due to budget-cuts, and to educate illiterate inmates. Sentenced to Lear examines the social and racial dynamics that constitute the reality in U.S. prisons, and explore an alternative role for the penal system.
